Narrabri Bowling Club will host the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2022 president pairs final on Saturday when Sue Solomon and Janice Foxe challenge Cindy Neil and Carolynne Tomlinson.

Those two teams prevailed in semi-final matches last week. In a very close game on Thursday, Solomon and Foxe downed Ronnie Dewar and Helen Woodward 16 shots to 13, then on Saturday, Neil and Heather Caton (sub for Tomlinson) defeated Glennis Godden and Debbie Gleeson 18-7.

In Thursday’s match, Woodward and Dewar started with a handicap of six shots, and so despite winning four of the first five ends a combined seven shots to two, they trailed 2-1 at that stage.

Solomon and Foxe scored a one on the sixth end to make the score 3-1, before Woodward and Dewar scored a three on the seventh end to edge in front 4-3.

The score was six shots each at the completion of the 11th end, and then Woodward and Dewar scored a five on the 12th to go ahead 11-6.

They extended that to 13-6 before Solomon and Foxe produced a comeback for the ages.

The trailing duo won three straight ends while scoring six shots to reduce their deficit to one point.

The game was either side’s to win going into the 18th and final end, and it was Solomon and Foxe that got the job done with a four to prevail 16 shots to 13.

Woodward and Dewar held one shot on that last end until Woodward played her last bowl and moved the jack and went down four shots.

While Thursday’s clash was a tight one, Saturday’s was one-way traffic.

Caton and Neil won all of the first six ends to establish an early 8-0 lead, and then claimed two of the next three ends to lead 12-1 after nine.

Godden and Gleeson won three of the next five ends and trailed by nine shots with the score at 15-6 after 14 ends.

However, Caton and Neil won two of the next three ends to lead 18 shots to seven after 17, which was the way the score finished.

Saturday’s final will see Neil attempt to win another pairs championship in 2022 after she won the club pairs decider alongside Dawn Armstrong back in July when the duo downed Lisa Pillar and Eva Sadler 20-13.

Meanwhile, ladies’ social bowls was also played at the Narrabri Bowling Club last Thursday.

There were two games of three-bowl pairs and also one match of three-bowl triples.

In pairs, Marie Redman and Dawn Armstrong downed Jan Etheridge and Mary Wheeler 23-12, and Gloria Campey and Yvonne Hardman beat Glennis Godden and Lyn Tuckey 14-8.

In triples, Olwyn Campey, Rhonda Fitzgerald and Kay Carolan defeated Val Falkiner, Carol Demamiel and Di Chessells 18-12.
