The Narrabri Show Society is well into the preparations for next year’s event, with its organising committee busily working towards the exciting three-day event.
At the organisation’s meeting at the Tourist Hotel on Monday night, the committee welcomed Emily Brookes to the role of secretary.
A seamless transition is taking place between Ms Brookes and former secretary, now vice-president Bec Cope.
Narrabri Show Society president Ian Schweitzer, who was appointed in the position at the society’s annual general meeting in August, welcomed Ms Brookes to the committee.
“She is showing a lot of interest into the workings of the show. We are pleased with her enthusiasm,” Mr Schweitzer said.
Ms Cope, who has overseen the running of the 2021 and 2022 shows as secretary, has also praised Ms Brookes for her smooth induction into the show society.
“She has jumped in feet first. I have every confidence in her,” Ms Cope said.
“It’s good to see younger people getting involved in the show.”
Ms Brookes moved to Narrabri this year from Tamworth and showed an interest in the show soon after moving to town.
Working with Local Land Services, Ms Brookes moved to town to be with partner Rhys Mortimer.
She was invited to come along to a show meeting, and her involvement blossomed from there.
Growing up in Walcha where she would attend the annual show each year, she knows the important role a country show – like the Narrabri Show – plays in a community.
“Everyone has been very warm and welcoming,” she said of her involvement with the show society.
At Monday night’s meeting, entertainment options were discussed – with 2023 promising to be another action-packed show with something on offer for everyone.
Positions filled at the recent AGM include Mr Schweitzer as president, Ms Cope and Wendy McNair as vice-president, Ms Cope as public officer, and committee members Brandi Megson, Clare Mead, Robin Trindall, Emily Young and Patti Lettice.
Patrons for the Narrabri Show Society are Max Pringle OAM, John Melbourne and Cheryl Pawley, with Irene Tomlinson added as a patron.
The committee is still seeking to fill the positions of treasurer and assistant secretary/treasurer. Anyone interested in these positions is invited to contact the Narrabri Show Society or attend a meeting, with details published on the show’s Facebook page.
