‘The Christmas Tree Shop’, open for just one month and situated in the old Barrakets 2 premises, has been a hive of activity since it opened its doors for the month of December.
The brainchild of Monterey Café proprietor Jenny Wilson, who had seen a similar idea set up on her travels, said the concept revolves around a competition for schools, preschools, community groups, businesses, and individuals.
The community is invited to enter by bringing in and decorating a Christmas tree.
Judging will take place by Narrabri Shire Council representatives on Friday December 16, with a further People’s Choice award, on Christmas Eve.
Manned by volunteers, locals can visit the shop and place their vote with a coin donation, with the proceeds due to be given to Narrabri Meals on Wheels.
“Camstart Pharmacy proprietors Martin and Catherine Brown have kindly donated the use of the premises for a month,” said Mrs Wilson.
“I am delighted with the community response as I was hoping for 20 entries and so far we have 28.
“It is an exciting idea which brings the community together, with people celebrating the festive season in a new way for the town.”
