Fire and Rescue crews responded to a unit fire in Wee Waa late on Monday night, December 21.
Multiple tripe zero calls were received at the fire communication centre that a unit at an address on Mitchell Street was on fire.
Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 506 Wee Waa and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 399 Narrabri responded to the address.
On arrival, the officer-in-charge of Wee Waa’s appliance immediately requested assistance from the NSW RFS Narrabri Brigade and NSW RFS Myall Vale Brigade to attend due to the intensity of the blaze for extra fire fighting units and personnel.
Fire and Rescue deployed firefighters immediately in breathing apparatus to conduct a primary search and rescue to ensure all residents were out of the building.
Once the unit had been given the all clear, and the residents were accounted for, crews got to work to extinguish the blaze.
It took five firefighting appliances and 14 firefighters 90 minutes to contain and extinguish the fire.
Despite all efforts by the firefighters, the contents in the unit could not be saved and the unit was totally destroyed inside.
A spokesperson for Wee Waa Fire and Rescue said the residents of the house were very lucky to make it out without injury, thanks to a working smoke alarm in the unit.
Police and ambulance were also in attendance. The cause of the blaze is still unknown.
