One of the jewels in Narrabri Shire’s tourism crown – Yarrie Lake – will become more accessible following an announcement that the circuit road will be bitumised.

The major upgrade has been funded through almost $4.5 million through the Resources for Regions Fund.

The project will see 6.4 kilometres of gravel road reconstructed and sealed. It will ensure a smooth journey for locals and visitors alike when enjoying the facilities at Yarrie Lake.

“This multimillion-dollar upgrade will improve access and connectivity to Yarrie Lake Circuit, which is a popular road for not only locals, but for visitors who use it to access the picturesque Yarrie Lake, camp, and put their water skiing skills to the test,” Deputy Premier Paul Toole said.

“We know roads right across the region have been hit hard by recent weather, and this project includes major upgrades that will be critical in ensuring everyone who uses Yarrie Lake Circuit has a quick, smooth and safe journey, especially in times of flood,” Mr Toole said.

Narrabri Shire Council mayor Ron Campbell said the upgrades to Yarrie Lake Circuit have been a long time coming and will benefit the entire community.

“It’s great for both our local users and those visiting the region – increasing accessibility and providing another link in the chain for tourism growth in our shire.

The success of this grant highlights community-driven schemes and will be well appreciated by many,” Cr Campbell said.

Cr Campbell was joined by fellow Narrabri Shire councillors for the announcement.

The move to seal the circuit has also been welcomed by representatives of the Yarrie Lake Flora and Fauna Trust, Narrabri and District Chamber of Commerce and state Member for Barwon Roy Butler, who attended the announcement at Yarrie Lake.
