Narrabri Shire has welcomed five new citizens at a citizenship ceremony as part of Australian Day celebrations.
The new citizens, from various parts of the world, gathered at the multi-purpose room at the aquatic centre for the ceremony and following celebrations.
Narrabri Shire already boasts a culturally diverse community that is continually growing as more and more people from other countries make their homes here.
The new citizens, and their home countries, add to the cultural diversity of the shire.
Deputy mayor Darrell Tiemens presided over the citizenship ceremony and presented the new citizens with a gift on council’s behalf.
Citizens naturalised on Australia Day were Phil Newton (United Kingdom), Pille-Riin Sau (Estonia), Angelina Spittles (Philippines), Loreza Calalo Manalo (Philippines) and Gladys Apostol (Philippines).
The citizenship ceremony is the final step in securing Australian residency where each person makes the pledge of commitment to share Australia’s democratic beliefs and respect the rights and liberties of the people of Australia.
