Two of Narrabri Shire’s sports facilities will receive upgrades thanks to successful grants in round five of the NSW government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF).
Just short of $1 million has been awarded to the shire to upgrade lighting at Leitch Oval and transform the Wee Waa tennis courts to a multi-court facility.
Mayor Ron Campbell has welcomed the funding, emphasising the abundance of opportunities the upgrades will provide for people to play sport.
“We’re excited for these upgrades. They’ll modernise facilities for locals and enable residents to enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation,” said Cr Campbell.
“Sport is essential to the fabric of our communities and this funding allows us to continue to deliver modern and accessible facilities.”
Existing lights at Leitch Oval will be removed and replaced with a new floodlight system – providing multi-level lighting.
The Wee Waa tennis court facility will see the current courts replaced with two multi-sport courts, lighting and fencing upgrades and the introduction of picnic shelters and a viewing area.
Council will advise residents when the works are set to begin.
