Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club will be represented at another Region 3 playoffs event after Debbie Gleeson, Janice Foxe, Lisa Pillar and Lorraine Scott were crowned champions of the Namoi District Women’s Bowling Association’s open fours competition on Saturday.

Three Narrabri teams travelled to Lightning Ridge to line up across two district fours competitions.

There were only two teams in the open fours, which saw Gleeson, Foxe, Pillar and Scott defeat a Lightning Ridge team 20-16.

The Narrabri ladies established a healthy 15-4 lead after 11 ends of play, but the Ridge fought back and scored five shots across the next three ends.

By the 18th end, Narrabri led 19-14, and the visitors scored one shot to two across the last two ends to hold on and win the game 20-16.

In the senior fours competition, two Narrabri teams were in action.

Lightning Ridge’s Sally Williams, Stacey Reynolds, Dixie Skuthorpe and Sheila Naggy beat Narrabri’s Helen Woodward, Dawn Armstrong, Eva Sadler and Cindy Neil 23-14 in the first game on Saturday.

The Ridge team then had to play the other Narrabri team in the final, which was played on Sunday.

That team included Ronnie Dewar, Di Chessells, Lyn Tuckey and Marie Redman, who started well in the final.

The score was 11-all after nine ends, but the home side won nine of the last 11 ends to earn a 26-13 victory.

The Narrabri open fours team and the Lightning Ridge seniors team will now travel to Armidale to play in the region playoffs on Tuesday, March 14.
