A NSW Labor government would contribute $60,000 towards accessibility improvements at Gately Field, the party’s Barwon candidate announced on Thursday.
Funds would be used towards disabled toilet facilities as well as improving accessibility at the facility.
Labor’s candidate for Barwon, Joshua Roberts-Garnsey, described the funding as exciting for the well-used community facility.
Gately Field is the home of Narrabri junior soccer, and once the season is in full swing as many as 300 to 400 children will play at the grounds.
Parents and grandparents also access the fields when spectating the sport.
“It’s really important that all members of the community can come and watch,” Mr Roberts-Garnsey said.
“Gately Field is a great asset that we have in the community.”
Mr Roberts-Garnsey said improved facilities could also pave the way for the expansion of sporting events.
He was joined at the Gately Field announcement by Narrabri junior soccer canteen coordinator Toni Laws.
“This has been on our wishlist for a while,” Mrs Laws said of accessibility improvements.
Other works Narrabri junior soccer would like to complete at the facility include lighting improvements, canteen upgrades and field works.
Part of the accessibility plan includes a ramp leading to the car park and widening of footpaths.
Gately Field has toilet facilities, however, they are not suitable for disabled use.
