The career of a teacher can be a challenging one, but a life which brings great satisfaction in having a key role in the development of our younger generations.
And the role of principal takes the challenges, and sense of accomplishments, quite a few notches higher.
Former Narrabri Public School principal Craig Jollow, and his wife, fellow teacher Jill, have enjoyed successful and busy careers in communities across the state.
Now, Craig has written an overview of the family’s journey and published a book, Dust in the Eyes, Wind from Behind.
“The book’s title, while a little strange, basically means that I never knew where I was going, but just got pushed along,” explained Mr Jollow.
Craig and Jill live at Aroona, Queensland.
“We moved up to the Sunshine Coast a couple of years ago to support my aging father and are taking time to get used to the humidity and rain – because I’m indoors most of the time I had time to write my memoirs,” Mr Jollow said.
“Last year I published a book after a request from my daughter Kate.
“She figured she missed most of my first 26 years and didn’t know enough about my family because they are scattered throughout Australia.
“So type I did and in August the book was finished and published and, on request, was sent out to family and friends in various towns where we lived and taught.
“Narrabri was a big chunk of our lives and a place we love and still enjoy visiting.”
Mr Jollow printed 80 copies and almost all have been sold or given away and the proceeds donated both to the NPS Special Education Unit for student resources and Ronald
McDonald House in Tamworth.
“There are many worthy causes, but both of these had significant importance to me and are always worthy of support,” he said.
