Preparations are underway for Anzac Day commemorations to be held in Narrabri later this month.

On Tuesday, maintenance work was carried out at the Maitland Street memorial.

The light columns were opened up, cobwebs removed and the lighting in the 11 towers cleaned.

The clean-up efforts will mean the memorial’s light towers will be fully illuminated.

It forms part of the many volunteer hours that will be spent preparing the war memorial site, as well as the Narrabri West War Memorial, for the civic observances on Anzac Day.

Anzac Day commemorations are traditionally well-attended in Narrabri.

This year’s format will be similar to previous years, with a dawn service at Narrabri West, followed by a second dawn service at the Maitland Street memorial.

The commemorations will culminate with the main morning ceremony at the Narrabri RSL memorial.

Anzac Day details will be published in a future edition of The Courier.
