The Narrabri Parkinson’s Support Group gathered in Post Office Square on a crisp and lovely Tuesday to raise awareness and funds in honour of World Parkinson’s Day.

Every year, the date of April 11 marks a significant reminder that the incurable disease affects 10 million people worldwide, and 150,000 Australians, with 38 people diagnosed every day.

Holding a sausage sizzle at the prominent Maitland Street location, the support group’s mission was to fly their signature pink balloons high, showing the people of the Narrabri Shire that they are here for anybody who needs them.

The battle with Parkinson’s is close to the hearts of the group’s 22 members who are either living with or supporting loved ones living with the disease.

Parkinson’s Support Group vice president and 2Max FM radio host Fay Kirk said, “There are so many of us who have our own stories and battles with Parkinson’s, but the point is – we are getting through it together.”

The sausage sizzle was held with an accompanying cake store and Mothers’ Day raffle.

Proceeds will go to supporting more charities and community groups that need a helping hand.

The Narrabri Parkinson’s Support Group meets on the second Monday of the month at Presbyterian Church Hall, and is always excited to welcome new members.
