Anzac Day will be commemorated across shire towns and villages on Tuesday in ceremonies that attract a growing number of people each year.

Anzac Day nowadays has a new dimension, as the ranks of the returned servicemen and women, thinned over time, have their places in the marches and services attended by their families and community members.

In Narrabri, the national day of commemoration starts with the 5am dawn service at Narrabri West War Memorial. The dawn service at the Narrabri War Memorial in the RSL grounds will begin at 6am. It is anticipated that Narrabri will see a large attendance at the two dawn services and the main ceremony at the RSL memorial at 10.45am.

Last year saw a strong turnout at commemorations as the community was able to pay respect free of pandemic restrictions.

The late morning service will be preceded by the traditional street march which will be joined by organisations ranging from schools to emergency services, the pony club to service clubs.

Community involvement in the march and service is a trend that has strengthened in recent years.

Ceremonies across the shire will be held as follows:

Narrabri

First dawn service, 5am, Narrabri West War Memorial. Second dawn service, 6am, Narrabri War Memorial (adjacent to the Narrabri RSL Club). Main Anzac Day memorial service 10:45am or at the completion of the Anzac march at the Narrabri War Memorial.

Wee Waa

Dawn service, 5:45am, Rose Street at the Wee Waa War Memorial. Main Anzac memorial service, 10:30am, Rose Street at the Wee Waa War Memorial.

Boggabri

Dawn service, 5:30am at the Baan Baa War Memorial opposite the Baan Baa Hotel. Anzac march and main Anzac memorial service, 8:30am, at the Boggabri War Memorial at the corner of Brent and Merton Streets, Boggabri.

Bellata

Anzac march from Bellata Public School to the Bellata Memorial Hall, 10:30am, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at 10:50am and the main Anzac memorial service at 11am.

Pilliga

Anzac march down Dangar Street to the Pilliga War Memorial adjacent to the CWA, 10:30am, followed by the main Anzac memorial service at 11am.

Gwabegar

Anzac march, 6am, from Gwabegar Post Office to the Memorial Park followed by a dawn service.

Maules Creek

Main Anzac memorial service, 10:55am, at the Maules Creek War Memorial on Harparary Road.
