In perfect autumn weather Boggabri residents and visitors turned out in large numbers to commemorate Anzac Day on Tuesday.

The parade to the cenotaph was led by two antique motor bikes ridden by Bruce Sanderson and Robert Heiler.

The bikes were followed by six jeeps carrying veterans and community members.

Flag bearers Aaron Mosley and Daniel Peters led the marching groups who included, veterans and family members followed by members of NSW Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire Service, SES, nurses, Boggabri Public School and Boggabri Sacred Heart School, as well as Boggabri children who attend Gunnedah High School, St Mary’s Gunnedah, Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School Tamworth, and Calrossy Anglican School Tamworth.

Boggabri RSL Sub-branch president, Steve Eather led the commemoration with Bly Grover from Gunnedah High School offering the prayer of thanksgiving, Xanthia Watson and Eve Watt, Boggabri Sacred Heart School offering the prayer for the King, Jack Bomford and Miley Oliver from Boggabri Public School offering the prayer to the Nation and Charlotte Baird from St Mary’s Gunnedah offered the prayers for the fallen.

Rev. Nick Stone delivered the commemoration address and the gathering was spell bound by the beautiful voices of Caroline Stone and Liz Grosser in leading the hymns and anthems.

The Boggabri War Memorial was covered by 45 wreaths as residents, local dignitaries and veterans paid their respects.

Many comments were made on how wonderful it was to see children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participating.

Boggabri has a proud history of its residents serving our country and Boggabri RSL members once again placed an Australian Flag on the grave of all the veterans’ graves in the Boggabri general cemetery, the lawn cemetery and in the memorial walls. Over 180 flags fluttering in the breeze are an overwhelming and an emotional sight.
