ADFAS Narrabri presented its 2023 Young Arts award in the sum of $1000 to the Narrabri Arts Eisteddfod committee at a recent arts lecture evening with London speaker Leslie Primo at The Crossing Theatre on May 15.

The funds have been raised towards the Young Arts scheme from contributions from ADFAS Narrabri members and friends.

Each year the committee seek out a deserving arts group, school, band, or individual young musician/arts student to receive this award.

ADFAS distribute the award amongst young recipients throughout the district through collaboration with teachers, community group leaders and parents.

ADFAS Narrabri is part of an Australia wide non-profit organisation ADFAS (Australian Decorative & Fine Arts Society).

The Narrabri group, alongside 36 societies across Australia, provide illustrated arts lectures throughout the year at the Crossing Theatre.

ADFAS Young Arts philanthropy enhances arts opportunities for young people, offering opportunities to talented students, young artists and performers in local areas from pre-school to tertiary, already skilled or just beginning a newly discovered talent.

In the fields of art, sculpture, literature, music, dance, photography, metalwork, textiles design and more, ADFAS helps ensure young people have avenues to discover and develop their abilities and to participate and appreciate the arts.

Narrabri Arts Eisteddfod president Dianne Shann and music convenor Jenny Tucker were delighted to accept the award and Mrs Shann thanked the members present and said the funds will be put towards the purchase of medals.

In 2022 over $80,000 was contributed to Young Arts projects across the continent.

Most ADFAS societies offer a Young Arts program supporting a mix of both individuals and community groups.

Suggestions from the community for consideration of future recipients in the arts region are most welcome to Elizabeth Campbell, chair, ADFAS Narrabri at [email protected] or 0428 921 188.
