Essential Energy crews will carry out maintenance on the electricity network that supplies power to Boggabri and Wee Waa this weekend.

Operations manager Northern Tablelands, Mark Summers said the works would see the replacement of electricity network components to ensure the electricity network remains safe and reliable.

“The works will see the replacement of 30 power poles, 27 pole crossarms, one transformer, and a section of powerline across the two towns,” Mr Summers said.

“We will also carry out maintenance on various other network components during the works, along with replacing two streetlight poles and lights in Boggabri.”

So that the works can be completed safely, planned power outages have been scheduled for Boggabri on Saturday, May 27 from 8.30am until 4.30pm and Wee Waa on Sunday, May 28 between 8am and 4pm and affected customers have been notified in advance.

“Traffic control measures will be in place at various locations in Boggabri on the day of the outage, with some streets reduced to a single lane, and we ask motorists to please follow all traffic control instructions and signage, to ensure the safety of the public and our crews,” Mr Summers said.

Significant planning has been undertaken to complete the works in each town during a single outage, to reduce the impact on those communities, including bringing in additional crews and equipment from 12 other depots to assist local Narrabri and Gunnedah crews.

“On this occasion, we have also been able to schedule the power outages on a weekend, to further reduce any inconvenience,” Mr Summers said.
