It was a big weekend in Boggabri as the Boggabri Pony Club hosted its 2023 Stock Horse Challenge and the Blanch Trophy Gymkhana at the local Showground.

Club secretary, Helen Fielding, told The Courier that it was a fun weekend.

The Stock Horse Challenge was held on Saturday in chilly conditions.

The competitors were split into the juniors and seniors and then competed in similar events, however, the level of difficulty increased for the seniors and associates.

Events contested were handler class, hack pattern, working pattern, time trial and utility.

The event’s overall junior winner was Sophie Anderson and the senior title went to Molly Rees.

The age group highest point score results were as follows:

Seven-under-9-years – Angus Booby, nine-under-11-years – Lucy Booby, 11-under-13-years – Sophie Anderson, 13-under-15-years – Grace Stuart, 15-under-17-years – Molly Rees and associate – Charlotte Kesby.

On Sunday, the weather was much warmer for the riders, horses and spectators as the numbers and clubs increased to contest Boggabri Pony Club’s Blanch Trophy Gymkhana.

There were 46 riders who competed on Sunday up from 24 riders on the Saturday.

Blanch Trophy Gymkhana events included hack, and riding classes in age groups, boy rider, girl rider and pairs, pleasure hack and bareback boy and girl rider.

Sporting events are always exciting, with riders competing in bend, flag, barrel, pony twist and keyhole.

Results are as follows:

7-under-9-years girls – Lacie Collett (Tamworth), 7-under-9-years boys – Max Collett (Tamworth), 9-under-11- years girls – Lucy Booby (Narrabri), 9-under-11-years boys – Benjamin Birrell (Coonabarabran), 11-under-13-years girls – Chelsea Amos (Kootingal), 11-under-13-years boys -Max Booby (Narrabri), 13-under-15-years girls – Zara Kesby, (Tamworth), 13-under-15-years boys – James King (Narrabri), 15-under-17-years girls -Zali Duncan (Nundle), associate – Charlotte Kesby (Tamworth).

The Blanch Trophy Day club winner was Tamworth Pony Club.
