It was an early and cold start for keen lady golfers as they made their way to Boggabri for the Boggabri Golf Club’s 2023 ladies’ open day on Sunday.

Local Boggabri ladies were joined by golfers from Narrabri, Gunnedah Manilla, Werris Creek, Tamworth, Coonabarabran and Barraba on the day.

One lady told The Courier that she had a polo neck jumper, a shirt and another jumper and two pairs of socks on and when she got into the golf cart, she pulled the polo neck up over her face so just her eyes were showing and had a rug across her legs because it was so cold.

Boggabri Golf Club was the envy of several clubs following their recent acquisition of two Vendi carts, which were made available through a pilot NSW Golf Association program that is supporting small rural clubs that are not open every day.

However, a couple of other golfers’ carts did not like the cold weather and broke down.

At one stage, there were several carts broken down and there were some ingenious golfers who did not want to walk and so continued their round in a ute.

“The good thing was that noone had to walk that didn’t want to walk,” Gwen Hardy said.

Boggabri ladies gave a big shout out to the ‘on-course mechanics’ who got carts running again as well as helping a visitor get her car going after the day was over.

Despite a few hiccups, the day was declared a success with many visitors saying that they had, a terrific day, topped off with a delicious lunch.
