The Narrabri Aquatic Centre will remain closed this week as a result of urgent works.

Narrabri Shire Council announced the closure of the Tibbereena Street facility last week due to urgent maintenance of the centre’s fire safety systems and associated equipment.

Council had anticipated the centre would reopen on Wednesday.

In an update released on Monday, council advised the centre would remain closed this week.

“Due to supply issues of products (including ceiling panels) and the availability of contractors, the Narrabri Aquatic Centre will remain closed this week,” council said in a statement. “The extended closure will ensure works are complete and the systems tested so the public is greeted with a finished product.

“The property team is invested in getting the work done correctly and on time and has committed to having the centre reopen on Monday, July 24.”

Council acknowledged the closure inconveniences regular users, however, said the safety of the users is paramount.
