Nosh Narrabri’s status as the district’s premier food and drink festival will continue after organisers staged the event’s successful return at the weekend.

Festivities started with the market stalls and competitions held along the Narrabri Creek shared pathway.

Interest was high as much-loved competitions including the Nosh BBQ Cook-off, the Great Australian Cheesecake Competition and Australian Regional Homebrew Championships also marked a return to Nosh.

The barbecue competition proved a hit with spectators who eagerly watched on as teams battled it out to be crowned Nosh BBQ Cook-off champions.

Will Childs and Dylan Rosier wowed judges with their mouth-watering steak dish taking out the top prize.

The Nosh festivities continued on Sunday with the spring-themed long lunch, also held on the Narrabri Creek parklands.

More than 400 diners filled the marquee to enjoy a Sunday culinary delight.

Addressing the gathering on Sunday, Nosh president Kate Kahl described the biennial celebrations as unique.

“It brings our community together for one simple reason – to simply enjoy delicious food and drinks as a community,” she said.

NOSH BBQ COOK-OFF CHAMPIONS: Will Childs and Dylan Rosier were crowned 2023 Nosh BBQ Cook-off champions at Saturday’s festivities.

“What a fabulous way to showcase what our community can do.

“The committee are so proud to pull it all together for you.”

Mrs Kahl and the dedicated group of Nosh volunteers have spent months fine-tuning the weekend’s plans to ensure its success.

“This weekend simply wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors. This weekend costs Nosh over $100,000 to pull off,” she told the Nosh Long Lunch gathering on Sunday.

Port of Newcastle, the major sponsor of Nosh, announced it would increase its support for the festivities after seeing first-hand how the celebration brings the community together.

Mrs Kahl said the continued support helps secure Nosh for years to come.

The committee is busily coming up with ideas on future Nosh festivities to continue its iconic status as a leading culinary event.

Mrs Kahl ended her address with a toast to Nosh as lunch-goers enjoyed the festivities which continued through the afternoon and evening.
