FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK By Cr DARRELL TIEMENS
Sixteen days. That’s how long it’s been since I took on the role of your Mayor, and what a steep learning curve it’s been. I’ve been absolutely heartened by the supportive phone calls, texts, and emails that have flooded in from our wonderful community. Thank you, Narrabri Shire.
One thing’s for sure, the phone lines have been busy. I’ve been reaching out to our local members, neighbouring Shire Mayors, government agencies, and local council associations. The aim? To build relationships that will support our Shire’s growth and prosperity. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with various members of the Narrabri Shire staff and our directors. We’re exceptionally fortunate to have such high-calibre individuals steering this ship. I’m confident we’re in very capable hands.
Earlier this week, I attended an important gathering to discuss the ramifications of water buybacks on communities like Wee Waa and Narrabri. It’s critical that we take a stand to protect our water resources, and I’m committed to ensuring that buybacks don’t undermine our local area.
I also had the joy of attending the Baan Baa Hall Centenary in the lovely community of Baan Baa. A big shout out to the Boggabri Lions Club and the Baan Baa Hall Committee for a spectacular day.
Similarly, the Black Dog Riders for Mental Health event at the Narrabri Men’s Shed was another highlight. Kudos to the Lion’s Club of Narrabri for a smashing breakfast, and to Rose Lubke’s “Wheelie Bean” for her top-notch coffee. Not to forget the dedicated volunteers at the Narrabri Men’s Shed.
Additionally, I joined our general manager at a Safety Leadership Summit run by Transport for NSW. The objective was to make our Shire roads safer, a goal we all share.
Just the other day, I drove down to Pilliga to check out the new sections of Pilliga Road. Improving our infrastructure remains high on the agenda.
Overall, it’s been an incredibly busy, yet rewarding, first couple of weeks. I’ve enjoyed stopping to chat with so many members of our community.

Driving a message of respect, co-operation among councillors
FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK By Cr DARRELL TIEMENS It has been an eventful few weeks at the council. Last week’s council meeting was relatively smooth in which a number of matters were discussed. I was relieved that the council voted against changing the name of the shire as it’s not a priority. I am seeking to drive a message of respect and co-operation amongst my fellow councillors, and I was pleased to see that our councillors worked well together during this meeting. I eagerly anticipate my upcoming meeting with our local member, Roy Butler. I look forward to working with […]
