Wee Waa Bowling Club duo Kay and Dot Dewson travelled to Lightning Ridge on the weekend where they teamed up with Narrabri’s Rebecca Taylor and were crowned the 2023/24 Region 3 Bowls triples champions.
The trio won their two round robin games to top the ladder and progress through to next year’s State Championships.
The Wee Waa and Narrabri bowlers represented the Namoi District at the Region 3 playoffs, where they met the Gwydir and Central Northern teams.
The New England team forfeited, so the local ladies played two matches instead of three, and they won both of those games as they edged out the Gwydir trio of Pat Campbell, Susanne Gemmell and Belinda Emerson from Inverell RSM 23 shots to 20 on Saturday morning, and then beat Central Northern trio Linda O’Reilly, Cathy Verdich and Christine Myers of South Tamworth 32 shots to 12 on Sunday morning.
The trio are the only players from the Namoi District to qualify for the State Championships, which will be held in Dubbo in March next year.
