Major 19.6km upgrade of Rangari Road completed

The major upgrade of a major stretch of Rangari Road between Tamworth and Boggabri regions is completed.

The upgrade has sealed and widened approximately 19.6 kilometres of the road. The stretch of upgraded road runs from almost four kilometres east of the Gunnedah/Tamworth council area boundary to the Gunnedah/Narrabri council area boundary past Wean Road.

Work was carried out along three sections of Rangari Road and completed over 12 months.

Transport for NSW will return to Rangari Road in early 2024 to upgrade a 350-metre section in the Narrabri shire.

“This will further improve safety for motorists by straightening the sharp bend which motorists currently have to navigate when entering Narrabri Shire,” a spokesman said.

More than 250 cars and trucks travel along this previously unsealed road every day, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said workers had finished on site in December, just in time for Christmas.

“I took on the upgrade of Rangari Road because farmers, residents and the freight industry had been left frustrated by the dirt track for a number of years,” Mr Anderson said.

“That’s why I fought so hard to keep going back to the well for more money, totalling $15.6 million, to get the road sealed for the benefit of the local community.

“It’s been 18 months since Transport for NSW took over the sealing of Rangari Road, and I’m pleased that they were able to get to work so quickly since taking it over.

“It’s a sight for sore eyes to see the road sealed with blacktop, and I’ve been inundated with messages and calls from locals about just how good the condition of the road is now.”
