The Lions Youth of the Year program was a roaring success again in 2024, with Wee Waa High School’s Megan Crutcher named the overall winner and Georgia Constable the winner of the public speaking section.

“We had five extremely good entrants this year who all made the judging very difficult to finally get a winner,” said Lion Bruce Gray who helped to coordinate the program.

“Congratulations to Megan Crutcher as winner of the Lions Youth of the Year. Also, congratulations to Georgia Constable the winner of the public speaking section.

Congratulations to Lacey Evans, Chelsea Humphries, and John Brodigan for participating.

“Thank you to the judging panel – Judy Field, Ethan Towns and James Woodrow,” said Lion Bruce Gray.

“Thanks also to the Lions members who assisted on the day – Tash, Carmen, Tegan and Noel.

“Many thanks to Lisa at the Arts and Cultural Centre for making the centre available to hold this event – great venue.

The Lions Youth of the Year program involved students participating in interviews, delivering a prepared speech and an impromptu speech, before joining the judges for lunch.

WWHS congratulated all the participating students and Megan on being awarded overall winner, and Georgia on her public speaking recognition.

Relieving principal Marjory Drummond said, “Students’ participation in this terrific program gives them more interview experience in preparation for life after school, while boosting their public speaking skills and confidence.

“We are really grateful to the Wee Waa Lions Club for bringing this opportunity to us each year.

“Thank you to Lions Club member, Bruce Gray and his wife Kay who work with the school to coordinate the program.

“To the judges for giving their time and for encouraging our students, and to the broader Wee Waa Lions Club for delivering this program each year.”
