There was a lot of hype and attention around the arrival of a certain musical celebrity to Australia in the last couple weeks.

We were amazed to hear that Taylor Swift was in town and had packed the MCG in Melbourne.

Ninety six thousand people coming to watch just one of her concerts and see her perform.

Taylor Swift has a following of passionate ‘swifties’ that came to see her perform in one of her seven concerts Down Under.

She is popular for her talent as a singer, song writer and musician.

She has consistently produced high quality music, albums, tours and merchandise to accommodate many genres of music, from country to pop.

It was impressive that over 600,000 Aussies flocked to see one of her seven concerts in person, to watch her, and hear her perform.

If we take a look back 65 years ago.

Still to this day, the biggest crowd that has ever been recorded at the MCG is 130,000 people.

What did they come to see and hear?

The gospel of Jesus Christ.

No other single-day event has ever topped the Billy Graham crusade attendance at the MCG in 1959.

It is also estimated that more than three million people attended a Billy Graham crusade during his Australian tour in 1959.

That was nearly a third of Australia’s population at the time.

It is further estimated that more than a million Australians heard a direct radio and landline broadcast of the meeting in homes, churches and halls.

People came to see and hear what Billy Graham had to say.

Many also left with something.

They left that gathering a little different; they left inspired, encouraged, full of hope.

They left with a purpose.

Billy brought the same message Jesus gave and gives us still today.

To trust and obey the Word of God.

To simply love God, love people.

As much as people want to be entertained, I still think people want to hear a message of hope, of faith and of love.

That is what the Bible is for us.

It is good news.
