Last Friday night, I had the privilege of opening the CREATE Festival at The Crossing Theatre. People came from far and wide to view artworks from our local artists.

I loved being able to mingle with so many people and hear their individual stories.

As a side note, I spoke to a couple of ladies from Moree who mentioned they had attended our CREATE events a couple of times and were surprised at how unpretentious our art events were. I told them that this is just the way we roll here in Narrabri Shire.

Last Tuesday, we had another briefing for Councillors on the subject of the “SAP”.

I’ve heard a number of people assuming that our SAP is dead and buried. I can assure you that it’s very much alive, albeit being resurrected in another form and under new branding.

We will have some good news to announce over the next few months about housing and industrial zoning; watch this space!

This coming weekend is a busy one. Friday night is “NarraBRIGHT”, which I am really looking forward to. Please bring along your families and friends from 6pm onwards to Maitland Street, Narrabri.

Another not-to-be-missed event is the Art & Craft Society exhibition “Living in the Country”, which I will be opening this Saturday at 11am at the Narrabri Art & Craft complex, 35 Dangar Street, Narrabri. The work will include embroidery, photography, quilting, painting, sculpture, and a decorated cake.

On Saturday night, the “My Country” Exhibition opens at the Wee Waa Arts and Cultural Centre (22 George Street, Wee Waa). Tickets for the opening night are still available for purchase through the gallery. It is well worth a visit. The exhibition will be open on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm, with free entry during the week.

This Saturday also marks an exciting moment for golf in Narrabri as Golf NSW will be hosting a Regional Qualifying Tournament from March 14 to 16 at the Narrabri Golf Course.

The council has secured a partnership with Golf NSW to hold the event here, with the possibility of this arrangement continuing for the next two years, depending on how it goes this year.

Have a great week, everyone, and please get out to support the many activities across the shire this weekend.
