Books are ready to fly off the shelves at the Rotary Club of Narrabri’s book sale in Maitland Street.

The organisation will open the doors to its temporary book shop on Thursday.

The shop, located next to Baguley’s Jewellers, is a major fundraiser for Rotary.

Reading interests of all tastes are covered, with the range including fiction and non-fiction as well as different genres in each section.

There are also books for all ages, including some special interest items, as well as DVDs. Since the last sale, the club has been buoyed by continued book donations.

Rotary Club of Narrabri president Karen Kirkby said the project serves as a great fundraiser, enabling the club to continue to support local projects and causes.

“Our Rotary book sale also serves as a good community service,” she said.

The most recent book sale, held in 2022, was a record-breaking success for Rotary after raising more than $30,000.

“All of the money we raise through the book shop is spent locally,” Dr Kirkby said.

The book sale has developed from a book section at a garage sale held at the showgrounds to the stand-alone sale in the Narrabri town centre.

Former Rotarian Bruce Ireland has supported the initiative by providing the Maitland Street shop free of charge.

Rotary’s book sale will be open on Thursday and Saturday, closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Its regular trading days will be Monday to Saturday.

Eftpos facilities are also available at the book sale this year.

The Rotary Club of Narrabri supports the local community through projects and supporting organisations, including:

  • Upgrade of the Selina Street common shelter area. Continued donations to the Country Education Foundation of the Namoi and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
  • In recent years, the club has also donated funds to school P&Cs in the Narrabri district as well as financial support for vital community services like Meals on Wheels and Shared Table Community Kitchen.
  • Rotary has proudly sponsored students to participate in extracurricular education pursuits, to support their study and career ambitions.
  • Rotary also sponsored the formation of a Rotaract Club in Narrabri, and now in Wee Waa.
