St Joseph’s Primary hopped into Easter celebrations early, with the school hosting its popular hat parade on Wednesday, March 27.

Students proudly paraded their colourful creations before their adoring grandparents, parents, carers, teachers, family, and friends.

The crowd cheered and clapped, reflecting how impressed they were with the magnificent mix of homemade masterpieces and millinery skills on display.

From brightly coloured bowlers to brims bursting with delicious chocolate and glittery eggs – there was something for everyone – bunny ears popping out of a hand-crafted top hat, a fluffy yellow chicken hatching from a pretty papier-mache egg, touches of Australiana too with gum leaves lining an Akubra, Bailey Crutcher pulled a rabbit out of the hat with his fantastic footy team tribute, and a crowd favourite were the carrot toppers.

The enormous effort, time and care that must have gone into making the crafty Easter lids should not be underestimated. And special recognition must go to the makers and models who participated in the tallest hat category, these students managed to brilliantly balance their towering headwear even when it wobbled and swayed precariously as they walked along in the parade – no small feat, and no tumbles were taken.

This year’s categories included most creative, best Easter theme, best religious theme, and tallest hat meaning there was plenty of variety on show – some hats were traditional, some had a more modern twist, others told a story or were simply beaming with colour, love and joy to celebrate Easter time.

Judges Roxanne Whitton, Sherie Kewley, and Ali Smith had such a tough task they awarded extra prizes, thanks to some treats in Roxanne’s pockets, and the trio praised all participants taking their hats off to the ‘eggscellent’ Easter entries.
