Readers might have noticed works commencing at the Wee Waa tennis courts last week. Narrabri Shire Council said the works include the removal of asbestos from the old tennis club house, and the tennis courts are set to be transformed to a multi-court facility thanks to a grant boost of $987,430 for the shire’s sports facilities.

In February, NSC announced two of the shire’s sports facilities would receive upgrades thanks to successful grant applications in round five of the NSW government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Just short of one million dollars has been awarded to NSC to upgrade lighting at Leitch Oval in Narrabri and to transform the Wee Waa tennis courts to a multi-court facility.

NSC said as well as the current courts being replaced with two multi-sport courts, lighting upgrades, the introduction of picnic shelters and a viewing area are also part of the plan.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2025, NSC said it will post infrastructure updates on its website.
