On Anzac Day, we pause to remember the bravery and sacrifice of those who have and continue to serve our nation.

Boggabri is known as the little town with a big heart and the community and their visitors once again came out in droves to attend a wonderful, solemn and well supported Boggabri Anzac Day Commemoration.

The students at our schools both local and away took time out of their school holidays to participate in the march as well as participate in the service by offering prayers and readings. They are our future and Australia is in good hands.

President of the Boggabri RSL Sub-branch, Steve Eather conducted the service with Rev Nick Stone delivering the commemorative address.

Blye Grover, Gunnedah High School, Grace Groves and Emily Valks, Boggabri Sacred Heart School, Grace Nobilo, Boggabri Public School, Owen Rixon, Gunnedah St Mary’s School read prayers.

The cenotaph was impressive at the end of the wreath laying with more than 40 wreaths covering the base.

Samantha Faragher, a serving member of the Royal Australian Air Force marched with her son.

While speaking to Samantha she said she had made the trip to her hometown as next month she will have given 40 years of service in the defence force.

She left Boggabri as an 18-year-old and is now approaching 40 years’ service in May 2024. Her son Calab drove from Canberra to march with his mum on such a proud and momentous occasion.

Numerous compliments were made by visiting attendees and local community members on how blessed Boggabri is having Caroline Stone and her beautiful voice to lead the singing of the hymns and anthems.

Boggabri is also fortunate to have the support of the Narrabri Shire Band who set the beat for the march and talented bugle player Sarah Smith.

The Carrigan family paid their respects with a wonderful display at the front gate of their property of poppies, silhouette and flags however the centre piece and most impressive article was a bench seat acknowledging family patriarch Clarence Patrick Carrigan NX125198 1 Aust Motor Brigade Coy AIF.

Maria Eggleton had an impressive display at her home in Clare Street as did Gwen and Lloyd Hardy at their front gate.

Members of the Boggabri RSL Sub-branch placed an Australian flag on veterans’ graves in the Boggabri general and lawn cemetery as well as on the memorial walls. A very moving and emotional sight as you enter the cemetery.

Overall, a wonderful, solemn and well supported service by babes in arms to 98-year-old Neil Kemmis

We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and continue to uphold their legacy.
