Narrabri Rugby League Football Club put up a brave fight in round five of the Group 4 Rugby League campaign at Collins Park on Saturday, but the Dungowan Cowboys were too strong as they claimed victories in all four grades.

The visitors won the ladies league tag game 26-4, the under-18s match 24-22, the reserve grade game 70-12 and the first grade contest 48-14.

Blues centre Dylan Segundo scored two tries during the first half of the main game and Cameron King added a third in the second stanza that Josh Trindall converted, but Dungowan ran in nine tries of their own as Dylan Lake and Trent Taylor both bagged doubles and Noah Hooley, Sam Taylor, Braydon Allan, Lochie Collins and Brett Wright all crossed once each. Trent Taylor also kicked six of the nine conversions and he polled three Group 4 best and fairest points, and his teammate Lake earned one.

Narrabri’s Sam Sadler picked up two best and fairest points for the second week in a row to move to a total of five following another solid game at lock for the Blues.

His coach Glenn ‘Snow’ Collins told Group 4 Media there were positive signs from his men.

“We played some really good football,” Collins said.

“But their experience told in the end against our young guys. We started well but my job is to get them playing for the 80 minutes not 40.”

“They’ll learn plenty from this.

“Dungowan were more experienced in the wet and played a lot better than us in the second half.”

In reserve grade, Malik Dennis crossed for both of Narrabri’s tries and Josh Buckthought slotted both of the conversions. Buckthought also earned two Group 4 best and fairest points.

In the under-18s contest, Isaiah Cochrane produced another quality effort for Narrabri that included a try and three conversions and saw him earn two Group 4 best and fairest points. Lincoln Browning bagged a double in that match and Jack Anderson also crossed for a try.

The Bluebirds league tag side’s try was scored by Lidia McCauley and her teammate Tashanny Clark polled one Group 4 best and fairest point.

Narrabri will be back in action on Sunday, May 19, when they travel to Jack Woolaston Oval to face North Tamworth in all four grades following this weekend’s Scully Park NRL match full competition bye.
