A savage dog attack on sheep at a Narrabri property on the outskirts of town has distressed and angered the sheeps’ owner and prompted a warning.

“Keep your dogs tied up or confined at night,” he said.

The owner of the sheep mauled on the Boundary Street property found them on Monday afternoon on his regular check.

“They had obviously been attacked the night before.”

Ten were killed – one ram and nine ewes. The ewes were heavily pregnant and would not have been easily able to run or avoid the attackers in their terror.

The sheep not mauled to death on the ground were driven into the dam by the attackers.

“I think it was more than one dog involved judging by the paw prints in the dam mud,” the owner said.

The injuries to the sheep were around their faces and neck, badly torn by the dogs.

“We have reported it to the police,” the owner said.

The savaging of the sheep is a distressing incident but also a costly one for the owner.
