Narrabri United Hospital Auxiliary has issued a plea for support to the community to assist in the running of its hospital kiosk.
The kiosk is the organisation’s primary source of fundraising.
During its years of operation, the hospital auxiliary has been a significant contributor to the hospital through donations of equipment.
Narrabri United Hospital Auxiliary president Tricia Hadley described volunteering at the hospital kiosk as a rewarding experience.
“Ideally, we need people to assist at the kiosk once a month, from 8.45am to 2.15pm,” she said.
“At the moment, we haven’t got as many volunteers as we need.”
During the early part of the COVID pandemic, the kiosk was closed. However, since reopening business has picked up.
“We have a lot of people come into the kiosk,” Mrs Hadley said.
“Some come here once a week just to have lunch.”
The efforts of the hospital auxiliary are known to many, with its contributions to the hospital detailed in The Courier across the decades.
One of the most recent donations was a skin grafter.
The auxiliary has also purchased an anaesthetic trolley for mothers and babies, the same that is used across the health district.
A Learnfit sit and stand desk, trolleys for the oncology department and wheelie walkers also feature on the donations list.
“We often also buy little things,” Mrs Hadley said.
Auxiliary treasurer Neurelle McTaggart said all of their purchases stay within the Narrabri Hospital.
While the hospital kiosk is known for its delicious food, it is more than a meal stop.
The volunteers do what they can to assist people who are staying at or visiting the hospital.
