The man who produced Webster’s dictionary in 1828, American Noah Webster, was a stickler for correct English usage. Author Rick Morton cited Mr Webster’s punctilious approach. “Noah Webster’s wife unexpectedly entered Noah’s study to find the housemaid sitting on his knee” Rick said. ‘Oh! I am surprised!’ she said. ‘No dear,’ corrected Noah. ‘You are astonished. We are surprised.’
