Cattle buyers from the length and breadth of eastern Australia were again drawn to the fifteenth annual Rayleigh Poll Hereford stud sale at Narrabri on Friday.
Buyers from Queensland, Western NSW, Victoria and Tasmania joined regional producers at the sale at the sale venue, the Holcombe property “Kombali” on the Kaputar Road.
While buyers at Kombali enjoyed the traditions of hospitality, lunch and catching up with their industry colleagues, others bought online.
Many are repeat buyers, cattle producers who seek out Rayleigh stud cattle each year.
Rayleigh Poll Hereford Stud was established in 1957.
Twenty three of 29 bulls sold, with two to a top price of $16,000 – both were bought by the Steiner family, Coonamble, decades-long established buyers of Rayleigh cattle.
Overall, the bulls averaged $9652. Eleven of the 15 heifers sold to a top of $4000, twice, to average $2409.
Lot 38 made $4000 and sold to a Tasmanian buyer online.
Lot 48 also made $4000 and sold to Jarrah Genetics at Banana, Queensland.
“The sale result is evidence of the wide spread of buyers who appreciated the quality and genetics on offer”, commented agent for the sale Nutrien’s Bruce Evans.
“I was a good solid result.”
