Three Narrabri High School students – Kaitlin Barnes, Will Faris and Maeve Harris – are ready to embrace the opportunity to learn more about STEM after arriving in London this week.
The students departed Sydney on Tuesday, arriving in the British capital on Wednesday afternoon with the London International Youth Science Forum underway from Thursday.
The forum is based at the coveted Imperial College London and was expected to start with a keynote address by Nobel Prize winner Sir Gregory Winter, an English molecular biologist best known for his work on the therapeutic use of monoclonal antibodies.
Speaking to The Courier prior to their departure, the three students expressed their immense gratitude to the many businesses, organisations and individuals who have made their attendance at the forum possible.
When asked what they are most looking forward to at the forum, the students replied with a mix of science and iconic British experiences.
Will is looking forward to attending a lecture on malaria and growing drug resistance.
A feature on the programme Maeve is ready to enjoy is a tour of the factory of British sports car manufacturer McLaren.
For Kaitlin, she is looking forward to a lecture on ice, ocean and atmosphere.
In addition to lectures, the students will see stage productions at the West End, including Mamma Mia, and will visit landmarks including war memorials across London and iconic sites including Stonehenge.
