Big Lift welcomed back to Narrabri

Almost 80 university students recently visited Narrabri as part of The Big Lift.

The Big Lift is an initiative where students travel on a bus trip to regional areas to complete various volunteering projects.

The cohort of students received a warm welcome to Narrabri thanks to the local Lions Club.

Students were officially welcomed at a dinner on the day of their arrival, held inside the main pavilion at the showgrounds.

The next day was spent volunteering for various community projects around town.

Students planted trees at Hogan Oval, picked up rubbish along the Narrabri Creek and did weeding at the Narrabri Presbyterian Church.

Founded on the philosophy of ‘Paying it Forward’, The Big Lift is a student run, volunteer organisation that takes eighty students on a nine-day bus trip through regional Australia to complete various volunteering projects.

These include painting, gardening, cleaning and simple construction/deconstruction tasks.

With a focus on community engagement, The Big Lift works closely with towns across the country to provide help where it is needed.

Previously in 2022, The Big Lift volunteered at Narrabri and were pleased to be warmly welcomed by the Lions Club of Narrabri again.

“The Big Lift aims to inspire young individuals and create a vessel to help others, whether that be through physical labour work or listening and engaging with townspeople. We aim to be inclusive of everyone’s abilities and individual stories,” said president of The Big Lift, Annabelle Sghabi.

On their departure, students gave a big ‘Yeah Buddy’ cheer to the Lions Club and presented representatives Bob Percival and Ross Campbell with a certificate of appreciation.
