Narrabri Shire Council election candidates will have the opportunity to outline their election platforms at a ‘Meet the Candidates’ forum at The Crossing Theatre next Thursday night, September 5.

The public forum is an initiative of the Narrabri Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber president Russell Stewart said groups and individual candidates will be invited to present to the forum.

Mr Stewart also encouraged the public to come and along and meet the candidates.

The format will be similar to the chamber’s previous Meet the Candidates evening, with candidates able to speak to guests followed by a question and answer session.

“It’s extremely important that you think deeply and listen to what your nominees have to say,” Mr Stewart said.

“Don’t take your vote lightly. The successful councillors will be running the largest business in town that you are a shareholder in. It’s your council.

“If you wouldn’t hire these people for your business, don’t vote for them for your council.”

The large number of candidates underlines the level of interest in the future direction of the council and community, Mr Stewart said.

“Chamber has never seen so many nominees for council,” he said.

“It’s never been more important for you to know who you are voting for.

“Some use council as a leg up to a career in politics, others use their position to further an interest and others use it for a love of their community.

“These three categories need to be well considered before casting your vote.

“If you are confused about how to vote, this will be explained on the evening.”

The forum will be video recorded again. It will be held in one of The Crossing Theatre’s cinemas and will start at 6pm.
