If you missed the ‘Meet the Candidates’ event at The Crossing Theatre on Thursday night you can now see the ‘movie.’
The information event organised by Narrabri Chamber of Commerce was filmed by Narrabri’s Jamie and Annette Condon as a contribution to the community.
Most of the candidates attended the meeting and presented five minute talks outlining their platforms and were open to questions from the floor.
Candidates’ order of speaking followed a draw from the hat.
All speakers offered cogent and well presented platforms.
The candidature of enthusiastic and impressive young candidates was praised. The perennial local government issues were again prominent in the speakers’ addresses.
Road maintenance and upgrades featured, as did the need for community services, protection of vital health services, frustration with government funding (which provides the bulk of council income) and the necessity for sound council financial administration to avoid major rate rises.
The information night was chaired by Narrabri Chamber of Commerce president Russell Stewart.
The Chamber has hosted previous similar events in its role as community advocate.
Mr Stewart complimented the candidates on stepping forward to offer themselves for election.
Service as a councillor was challenging but rewarding and every elected candidate deserved community support and respect, Mr Stewart said.
