The Narrabri Country Hostess Association held a fundraising movie night recently, in support of the Narrabri Women’s and Children’s Refuge.
Guests enjoyed canapés and a drink in the Riverside Room before watching ‘It Ends With Us’.
The event was a sell-out success, with more than 140 tickets sold.
Association president Cara Stoltenberg said the group is made up of a bunch of lovely Narrabri ladies who organise and hold a ball bi-annually (every second year).
“When there is money left over from our ball we like to donate it to a local charity or non-for-profit, as our way of giving back to our community. This year the hostesses wanted to donate $2000 to the Women’s and Children’s refuge in Narrabri,” Mrs Stoltenberg said.
“The Hostesses also thought that there might be a greater opportunity here to also raise some awareness for what the refuge does, and why it is so important. So while we are also donating the proceeds from tonight’s event to the Narrabri Women’s and Children’s Refuge (and I think we have raised over $2000), we also thought we would share a little bit more information.
“The refuge offers short term accommodation, in a safe and secure place, for women and their children who are experiencing family and domestic violence, or other risk factors.
“Last financial year the refuge housed 43 women and children. There are five rooms that can hold a maximum of 12 people at any one time. The refuge is mostly always full, especially given the current housing crisis.”
Mrs Stoltenberg thanked the attendees for supporting the refuge. “Please continue to have these conversations and always check in on family and friends,” she said.
