Thank you to the Dunnet family

Thanks to the Dunnet family for 104 years of publication of The North Western Courier.

Back in 1945 I was boarding in Narrabri and going to Narrabri Intermediate High School.

I had a friend, Ken Druce, in the same class who had a paper run to deliver The Courier to an eastern portion of Narrabri.

He asked me to give him a hand for a couple of bob, which I did.

Back then The Courier was printed by a large mechanical press at the back of the present Courier building. We would go in to the printing area to pick up the papers to be delivered.

The noise of the printing machines was extremely loud and the smell of the printing ink was very strong.

There were very few street lights in Narrabri then so we had to try and finish the paper run before dark.

From my early farming days to the present I have depended on The Courier to keep me informed – which it did.

Chappie Dunnet, who is Ian’s father, was a mentor to me in my early days of irrigation farming.
