The Narrabri Jockey Club holds a proud and enduring place in the history of country picnic racing.

Established in 1874, the club has been at the heart of the local community for over 150 years, making it one of the oldest sporting institutions in the region.

In its early years, racing events were simple affairs, held with limited facilities.

The community would come together to celebrate the races, often viewing them as a highlight of the social calendar.

The club evolved rapidly, driven by passionate local horse owners and enthusiasts.

Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Narrabri Jockey Club expanded its operations and infrastructure, attracting competitors and visitors from surrounding areas.

Over the decades, the club has hosted countless race meets, the Narrabri Cup, becoming a coveted prize, attracting race horses from across the region and interstate. Local trainers and jockeys have also made their mark, with several going on to achieve success in bigger race meets.

The Narrabri Jockey Club continues to be a vital part of the town’s cultural and social fabric.

The club has not only survived but thrived, thanks to the dedication of its committee, members, volunteers, sponsors, and the local community, all of whom have worked tirelessly to keep racing alive in Narrabri.

In a grand celebration of its rich history, the Narrabri Jockey Club is marking 150 years since its founding in 1874. To commemorate this milestone, the club is hosting a Spring Racing Soirée — an event that promises to be a celebration of the club through an immersive dining experience never seen before in Narrabri.

Narrabri Jockey Club president, Will Childs said the event is to commemorate 150 years since the Narrabri Jockey Club was formed and to celebrate those who have evolved the club to what it is today.

“We are pleased to be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the club. As it is such a significant milestone, the celebratory luncheon style event is a complete premium dining experience.

“The committee wanted to showcase the subtle improvements club members, volunteers, and sponsors have put in at the racecourse in preparation for the March 2024 race meet and celebrate this occasion trackside.

Set to take place at the Narrabri Racecourse, the event will feature a gourmet lunch prepared by the Terra Firma Dining, offering guests a premium culinary experience with the Narrabri Racecourse as a fitting backdrop with live entertainment.

“Tickets are now on sale, and we encourage anyone interested in attending to gather their friends and jump online and get their tickets. It is a premium event with all expenses for a two-course lunch, inclusive all afternoon drinks package, and live entertainment covered with the ticket.

“Our goal was to create a one-of-a-kind experience for Narrabri, offering the community an unforgettable experience while celebrating the club’s achievements. Terra Firma Dining will feature hot coal cooking methods, using locally sourced meat and produce. Guests can enjoy an interactive dining experience, watching and engaging with the chefs as they prepare each course.”

“With the event taking place in late November, it’s a perfect opportunity for businesses and corporates to treat their staff to a stress-free Christmas party.

“Simply purchase a ticket, show up, and we’ll handle everything—from food and drinks to entertainment and clean-up.”

The 150-year anniversary is a significant milestone, celebrating not only the long-standing success of the club but also the rich heritage of country racing in New South Wales.
