The Courier’s general manager/editor Dylan Smith has been acknowledged for his contribution to newspapers during his four years in North West NSW.
Mr Smith, who leaves Narrabri later this year, was acknowledged at the Country Press NSW gala awards dinner. The association’s secretary Greg McFarland described him as a major talent.
“Thank you for all of your efforts,” Mr McFarland said.
Mr McFarland told the gathering Mr Smith had overseen the North Western Courier publications during a successful three years at the annual awards dinners.
Since the awards returned in 2022, the North Western Courier publications have been the most awarded of independent publishers in NSW.
Of 60 awards presented, the publications have won almost a quarter of the honours, including The Courier being Newspaper of the Year in 2022 and 2023 and the Gunnedah Times taking the Newspaper of the Year title at last week’s conference.
The Courier has also consistently been recognised for its editorial excellence, winning Best News Coverage in 2022 and 2024 and was runner-up in 2023.
