Narrabri will pause to remember service and sacrifice at Remembrance Day commemorations on Monday.
The shire’s commemorations are a significant community event and each year draw larger attendances.
Remembrance Day is a time to pay respect and remember the service and sacrifice of veterans and current serving personnel.
The service in Narrabri will commence at 10.45am and will take place at the Narrabri War Memorial outside the Narrabri RSL.
Narrabri RSL sub-branch president Nicole Gallagher has encouraged the community to come together to remember on this special day.
Local students will again have an important role to play in the proceedings.
Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day marks the signing of the peace agreement between Germany and the Allies that ended the Great War of 1914-1918. From the Narrabri district, 687 people volunteered their services in the Great War. One hundred and five of these volunteers paid the supreme sacrifice.
The Second World War began just 21 years later. Almost a million Australians served during that conflict that lasted close to six years. Armistice Day was then renamed Remembrance Day.
