Narrabri and District Community Aid Service (NDCAS) has been buoyed by the strong community support for its first Community Christmas Drive.
The aim of the initiative is to ensure children and families across the shire in need of assistance have a Christmas present under the tree.
The Community Christmas Drive will now enter its final two weeks, however, there is still time for the community to offer support.
NDCAS community engagement and communications coordinator Kayla Nehrkorn said support for the initiative was strong, with community organisations generously providing donations so the NDCAS team can arrange gifts in the gift categories in need of items.
“We have received a lot of support from the community,” Kayla said.
“The response from the community has been very positive.”
Donation points at local businesses in Narrabri and Wee Waa have also been supported, with the response overwhelming at some locations.
Gift categories have been well supported across the board, however, Kayla said gifts were in shorter supply for teenage boys.
Gift ideas for a teenage boy include duffel bags, home fitness equipment, sports equipment, movie tickets, toiletry items and gift cards.
“Our boxes for adults are quite full,” Kayla said.
“It’s going quite successfully.
“We also have been receiving plenty of gifts for babies and young children.
“We also have plenty of stocking fillers.
“We are now getting to the point that we will start wrapping gifts ready for our referrals.”
Kayla was also pleased with the effectiveness of their promotion of the Community Christmas Drive, saying people have been sharing the details of the initiative.
“It’s reassuring that the message is getting out there.”
Since the initiative was launched last month, almost 60 referrals have been received.
Referrals will continue to be received until November 29 and will only be accepted directly from a service via email or in person.
