Western Australian police will have extra powers to search for knives and other weapons in an effort to increase community safety. Officers will be able to use metal detectors to scan anyone, of any age for knives and weapons. Once scanned the police will ask to show the metal item, then do another scan. If the person refuses a scan or won’t show the police the item, you could be arrested and searched, then face a $12,000 fine or given a year in prison.
