Construction has started on a purpose-built Narrabri Health Hub, with the first sod officially turned last month.
The facility is being constructed for Rural Fit, with Narrabri Shire mayor Darrell Tiemens and Rural Fit general manager Paula Murphy taking part in the sod-turning ceremony.
The Narrabri Health Hub will transform how local residents access health services.
Through a combination of video and sensor-based technology, the Narrabri Health Hub and multi-disciplinary team will bridge the gap between traditional face-to-face and telehealth primary care, supporting increased equity of access, empowerment and improved health outcomes for local residents.
Rural Fit’s exercise physiologist and exercise scientist, Steve Reilly services Narrabri and said the Narrabri Health Hub will help address a number of concerning health and wellness trends in rural and regional New South Wales.
“People living outside of major cities have higher rates of chronic conditions such as arthritis, asthma and diabetes, alongside an increased burden of disease,” Mr Reilly said.
“On average people residing in regional, rural or remote locations live 2.2 years less than their metropolitan counterparts.
“Rural Fit’s exercise-based interventions and allied health services run out of the Narrabri Health Hub will help address the region’s poor health outcomes, including the incidence of chronic disease and premature death.”
Mayor Darrell Tiemens said Rural Fit’s Narrabri Health Hub is a much-needed addition to the shire.
“It’s great to see quality primary care services being made available to our community,” Cr Tiemens said.
“Having access to some of the best health and exercise medicine services available will be transformative for many of our residents.
“The Narrabri Health Hub will help us as a community collectively improve our health and wellbeing.”
Construction is expected to span four months, with the hub scheduled to open in March.
