An investigation into offensive vandalism found in the state’s New England region has concluded, Oxley Police District announced today.
At about 9am on Friday, January 24, police received a report of malicious damage at a tennis court in Wee Waa.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District commenced an investigation into the incident. Following inquiries, police spoke to three young people.
On Wednesday, January 29, a 15-year-old boy attended Wee Waa Police Station.
The teenager will be dealt with by way of the Young Offenders Act.
No further police action has been taken regarding the other two teenagers.
“NSW Police Force takes hate crimes seriously and encourages anyone who is the victim of a hate crime or witnesses a hate crime to report the matter to police through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through Triple Zero (000) in an emergency,” Oxley Police District said in a statement.
The offensive vandalism was condemned by civic and state leaders last week, including Narrabri Shire mayor Darrell Tiemens.
Member for Barwon Roy Butler reacted to today’s announcement by commending police.
“Great work and much appreciation to the officers of the Oxley Police District,” he said.
“There is no tolerance for this type of behaviour. Let’s hope this type of ignorance can be stamped out in all NSW Communities.”
