It was wonderful to see so many people at last Friday’s NarraBRIGHT event — thank you to everyone who made it such a memorable evening.

From the many volunteers and staff to our local businesses, performers, and sponsors, the collective effort was outstanding.

It was heartening to hear reports of record trade across town, and I also want to thank those who stayed on to assist with the clean-up well into the evening.

By all accounts, this was one of the biggest NarraBRIGHT events to date.

Council is aware of the incident that occurred during the event.

Police have commenced an investigation, and anyone with footage is encouraged to contact Narrabri Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Last week’s Seniors Festival celebration at the Narrabri RSL was another wonderful occasion, with attendance at full capacity.

Congratulations to our joint Senior of the Year recipients, Fay Kirk and Robert Walker. Their long-standing service to the Parkinson’s support group and broader community is deeply appreciated.

Last Tuesday I visited Parliament alongside members of the Wee Waa community to formally hand over more than 12,000 signed petitions.

During this time, I had the opportunity to meet with both the Health Minister and the State Treasurer, alongside our local State Member, Roy Butler.

I am confident that the government has taken notice of the outstanding efforts of our energetic Narrabri Shire community — particularly those from Wee Waa, who have led this campaign with passion and perseverance.

I want to acknowledge the tireless work of the volunteers on our committee, the support from our local member and his staff, and the many people across New South Wales who have rallied behind the Wee Waa community.

Your voices have been heard. The debate has been triggered and I am waiting for a date from the NSW Parliament.

The Draft Community Strategic Plan continues to be a key focus across the Shire, and we are inviting residents to share their feedback.

The next community session will take place in Gwabegar this Saturday, March 22, from 5pm to 7pm at Anzac Park. Everyone is welcome. Submissions can also be made online or by post.

A reminder that submissions for both the Draft Airport Master Plan and the Draft Community Strategic Plan close at 5pm this Thursday, March 20.

Nominations for Volunteer of the Year close at 5pm on Monday, March 24. Forms are available online and at the council administration building.

Please also note that Mount Kaputar is currently closed due to hazard reduction works and is expected to reopen on Monday, March 24.

Have a great week!
