They’ve lived their life in the shadows,
Through the years their family grew,
So now it’s time for them to shine,
Now their working days are through.

They’re out in the community,
Doing things they’ve never done,
They’re facing brand new challenges,
While they’re also having fun.

Once they were all anonymous,
Never had a claim to fame,
Now since they’ve’ been volunteering,
Most people know their name.

They sit back now and reminisce,
Of the good times in the past,
Some have lost their independence,
Cause the good times never last.

They’re living now in aged care homes,
Where they’re treated with respect,
And entertained quite regally,
Where they shine, as you’d expect.

And even those who stay at home,
There is always help at hand,
So now they have the time to shine,
And life’s looking rather grand.

The Lord has taken care of them,
And let their light shine bright,
So now they have the time to shine,
And accept what is their right.

They’ve done the hard yards
through the years,
And put others to the fore,
Their inner light is shining through,
Like it’s never done before.

They sit back and take it easy,
They’ve already done their best,
Enjoy your moment in the light,
Just sit back and have a rest.
